School Council

Alberta School Councils’ Association (ASCA) is pleased to announce the release of the NEW School Council Resource Guide.  This Guide replaces the Alberta School Council Resource Manual released in 2006, revised 2007. More than an updated version, the new Guide is 20 pages, and is designed as a digital document containing (over 40) electronic links to relevant resources. It encompasses all elements relating to school council and serves as a compact, concise handbook.  As the current School Act and corresponding Regulations are still in effect, little has changed in the content prescribing school councils in Alberta. Integrity of the original resource has been maintained and is meant to be updated annually going forward.

The School Council is an excellent way to become involved in the life of the school. Everyone is welcome and your input is valued. We hope that you will take this opportunity to stay informed, provide input and get to know other parents. Watch the newsletter for communications from council. All parents are always welcome to all Council meetings. Attending council meetings gives you great insight into what goes into making J. J. Nearing such a special place. Please attend if you can, we’d love to see you there! Meetings start at 6:30 p.m. and are typically held online, the third Wednesday of each month. In person will resume when it is deemed appropriate to do so. Please feel free to contact any council member with questions or concerns.
